About Us

The City & County of Honolulu Toastmasters Club offers training at an affordable price in a fun environment.  Most schools and universities don't offer the type of training that we do.

Learning takes place in the club environment.  Toastmasters clubs are different and offer their own special qualities.

The City & County of Honolulu Toastmasters Club (Club #4079) is in Aloha District - District 49 of Toastmasters International

Our club is promoted in the City's Training Development Catalog (2007 edition):
"The Personnel Development and Training Branch strongly supports the City's Employee Toastmasters Club. The mission of the club is to provide a mutually supportive and positive learning environment in which every member has the opportunity to develop communication and leadership skills, which in turn fosters self-confidence and personal growth. Members complete lessons through a workbook of progressive speeches and obtain constructive feedback from their fellow Toastmasters. Positive support and encouragement are key elements in participation. This is open to all employees."

In the City & County of Honolulu Toastmasters Club you will:
  • Meet and network with members many of who many are government employees.  Establish new business relationships.
  • Learn how to formulate, express and sell your ideas and yourself with poise and confidence.
  • Improve your ability to listen and evaluate other's ideas.  By actively listening and evaluating
  • Build "quick-thinking" skills as you give minute speeches on general subjects during Table Topics.
  • Learn by participating.  Conduct meetings and introduce speakers as Head Toastmaster or Table Topics Master.
  • Perform other roles that will give you plenty of practice in a variety of communication and learning experiences.

The greatest learning will come from preparing and presenting speeches based on projects in your Toastmasters Communication and Leadership Program manuals.

Communication Track

Members working in this track learn and practice communication skills.

Competent Communication manual

This manual, which has 10 speech projects, is the first step in the communication track. It helps develop your speaking skills one step at a time. Every projects builds upon what you learned in the preceding project.  When you compete this manual you are eligible for Competent Communicator (CC) recognition.

Leadership Track

Members working in the leadership track learn and practice leadership skills by serving in club roles.

Competent Leader manual

This manual is the core of the leadership track. It features 10 projects, which you complete while serving in various club meeting roles. An evaluator will give you feedback on each project, helping you to improve. When you compete the manual, you are eligible for Competent Leader (CL) recognition.
