Side Benefit of Toastmasters "I won a prize today at the Honolulu Realtor Broker's open because I got up and told a joke - the only joke I know - The Mozart joke I told at Toastmasters a month or so ago when I was Jokemaster." JoAnn Yee
Introducing our newest members Paul Charles Makaeha Lawelawe Day City & County of Honolulu, Dept. of Environmental Services, Environmental Quality, Regulatory Control Branch Position - Wastewater Service Investigator
I joined Toastmasters for self-improvement in the area of public speaking. I look foward to building relationships with fellow club members as we develop important speaking and management skills in a friendly environment. My interest include learning Hawaii Slack Key Guitar.
Bill Sakaguchi, AIA Vice President - Development Avalon Development Company, LLC
Interests: My wife Genie, and I are the parents of two sons, and gramma and grampa to a mo'opuna kane, Tate Keolu who is 2 years and 4 months old. Besides being grandparents, we like to have breakfast at the Kapiolani Community College Farmers’ Market on Saturday mornings, and then walk-it-off with a brisk walk around Diamond Head or Kapiolani Park. I also sing Bass with the Honolulu Symphony Chorus, and dance with Halau Hula O Maiki.
"My public speaking skills need improvement. My first meeting with the City & County of Honolulu Toastmasters was a revelation. I was impressed by the ease with which the presenters spoke, and by the generosity of the audience - by their attentiveness, gracious comments, and words of praise and encouragement. I learned that this group provides a safe environment to learn and build the confidence I need to improve my public speaking skills. Thanks for welcoming me as a new member."
JoAnn Yee (R) Project Manager - Avalon Development Company LLC Vice President & Principal Broker Avalon Realty LLC
Interests: Singing, reading, walking, exercising, dancing, volunteering with the elderly
"Although I have wanted to join for many years, I never found time to do it. My employer suggested I join this year and, therefore, I made a point to do so. The reason I want to join is, hopefully, to learn to organize my thoughts when speaking. Working on speeches and participating in the tabletopics, I believe, will assist me in that endeavor. Your club is filled with warm, encouraging, interesting individuals. The speeches I've heard at the two meetings and the speech contest I attended have been extremely well done, interesting and very informative. I'm delighted to be a member and look forward to participating in all areas."
Manny Neves Assistant Fire Chief Honolulu Fire Department
Interests include: Home remodeling, Kempo-Karate
"I felt that my communication skills could use some improvement which would help me be more effective as an executive of a large City department. The club readily embraces its new members and you feel very comfortable and safe in your efforts to improve."
